Trojans end Stars’ season for 2nd-straight year

Indianapolis — The Class 3A No. 13 Western Boone Stars entered Tuesday’s regional against No. 3 Bishop Chatard looking for revenge from last season when the Trojans ended the Stars’ season.

Unfortunately for WeBo, Chatard had other ideas. The Trojans topped Western Boone 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-23) to end the Stars’ season for the second-straight year.

“I thought the biggest difference from how we usually play is that we could not hold our serve,” Western Boone head coach Laura Lawson said. “Chatard is an amazing, fast-tempo team and I will use that to where we want our girls to be next year when we are a senior-heavy team just like them.”

One of the adjustments the Stars had to have was evident early in the first game.

The Chatard gym was one of the smallest Western Boone played in all year. The ceiling was in play for numerous points, creating a challenge Western Boone wasn’t used to.

“Maybe that is why they play such a fast-tempo — because they can’t hit balls up there,” Lawson joked. “That is just another thing we had to adjust too and it is always something.”

Chatard jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game one and never looked back.

The Stars got as close as three at 6-3, but the Trojans gradually pulled away as the match went on.
