John Leslie Peabody, 84, of Lebanon, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.
John was born May 14, 1928, in Boone County, the son of the now late Charles Glenn and Mildred R. (Ek) Peabody.
Reared and educated in Boone County, he was a graduate of Pinnell High School.
He married Rovene Coons in March 1949, in Boone County; they divorced. He then married Beulah “Bee” Laurena (Miles) Walker on April 21, 1979, in Goshen; she survives.
For several years, John farmed his family’s farm before becoming a partner in Jakes Tire Service in Lebanon. He then went to work at the Boone County State Bank, where he was a longtime employee, retiring from there in 1996.
As a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he loved his family dearly. In the early 1990s, he and his wife began wintering in Florida. He enjoyed walking for exercise and playing cards.
He was a member of Lebanon Christian Church, life member of the Lebanon Elks Club and a member of Sam’s RV Club.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah “Bee” Peabody of Lebanon; four children, DeLanda (Ralph) Coffing of New Port Richey, Fla., Connie Walker (companion, Joe Cripe) Leigh of Lebanon, Michael Lee Walker of Crawfordsville and Catherine Lynn Walker of Kirklin; eight grandchildren, Kelly (Roger) Maharaj of Spring Hill, Fla., Beth (Jim) Mause of Spring Hill, and Travis (Jessica) Strawmyer, Jill (Jeff) Dale and Angie (Jake) Miller, all of Lebanon, Danielle Walker of California, Jeb Reid of Frankfort and Shelaina Reid of Kirklin; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Madalyn) Peabody of Lebanon and David Peabody of Copeville, Texas; and two sisters, Jeanie Meenach of Lebanon and Ruth Ann (Jim) Hollingsworth of Lakeland, Fla.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Robert Peabody; two great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Wendell Meenach.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Lee Faust officiating. Interment will follow at Old Union Cemetery in Jamestown.
