Oris E. “Morris” Watts

Mr. Oris E. “Morris” Watts, 91, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis.

Mr. Watts was born April 22, 1918, in Boone County. He was the son of the late Richard A. and Ruth Elizabeth (Stephenson) Watts. He was educated in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1936.

He married Louise Amelia (Chioni) Watts on Nov. 23, 1957, in Evanston, Ill. Mrs. Watts survives.

Mr. Watts served in the European Theater during World War II. He was a tank driver with General Patton’s Third Army.

He was a chef all of his life. For five years during the 1970s, he operated The Thorntown Café. Throughout his career as a chef he worked in Chicago, Florida and Wisconsin. He retired in 1979 after working in hotels, restaurants and clubs.

Mr. Watts was a devoted husband, stepfather, stepgrandfather and stepgreat-grandfather.

He was a member of Sedwick Chapel in Sheridan.

Survivors include his wife, who resides in Lebanon; stepdaughter, Mary Alice Enright of Crystal Lake, Ill.; one brother, Leo Watts of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; two stepgrandchildren, Mary Sarah Dollahan and James Peter Enright Jr.; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Matthew Michael Dollahan, Margaret Louise Dollahan, Audrey Carol Enright and Lucy Enright; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Watts; two sisters, Bula Demaree and Margaret Sharp; a brother-in-law, Louis Sharp; and a sister-in-law, Mary Watts.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Myers Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow military rites at Bethel Cemetery in Sheridan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
