James Junior Irby


Mr. James Junior Irby, 83, of Whitestown, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Witham Hospital in Lebanon.

Mr. Irby was born May 8, 1926, in Clinton County. He was the son of the late James Albert and Carrie B. (Cory) Irby. He was a graduate of Kirklin High School and attended Butler University in Indianapolis.

He married Marilyn S. (Morrison) Irby on Dec. 3, 1949, in Frankfort. Mrs. Irby survives.

Mr. Irby served in the United States Army during World War II, where he served in the European Theatre.

He was an engineer for Best Lock of Indianapolis for 35 years. In 1961 he purchased his family farm, which was one of his greatest joys in life.

Mr. Irby was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He took great pleasure spending time with his family and friends.

He was a member of Radiant Christian Life Church in Westfield.

Survivors include his wife, who resides in Whitestown; son, James J. Irby and wife, Vicki, of Merritt Island, Fla.; daughters, Debra S. Artman and husband, Dean, of Atlanta, Ga., and Janet L. Martinez of Indianapolis; brother, Gerald Irby and wife, Alberta, of Tennessee; sister, Roberta Greeman of Kokomo; nine grandchildren, Jennifer L. Irby, James R. Irby and wife, Amber, Chris D. Artman and wife, Samantha, Jocelyn A. Burns and husband, Eric, Nathan R. Artman and wife, Michelle, Chalise K. Martinez, Aron Artman and wife, Alicia, Stephanie L. Waeltz and husband, Jeff, and Casey Artman; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Irby and Gene Irby.

Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Thomas Paino officiating. Entombment will follow military rites at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.
