Mrs. Wanda A. Gross, 86, of Lebanon, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Parkwood Health Care Center in Lebanon.
She was born July 19, 1923, in Ponchatoula, La., to Shelby and Ethel Hardin; they preceded her in death.
Wanda graduated Ponchatoula High School and completed her nurses training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She served her country as a U.S. Navy nurse during World War II.
On Aug. 14, 1946, she married the late Dr. James E. “Doc” Gross in Great Lakes, Ill. Dr. Gross died Nov. 15, 1998.
Mrs. Gross ran the home veterinarian practice with her husband and then worked as a registered nurse at Witham Hospital in Lebanon for 15 years.
She was a member of ESA Sorority and Zonta. She collected cans for Camp Riley for many years.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Teresa) Gross of Jamestown and Laurie Gross of Lebanon; granddaughter, Renee (Randy) Graves of Indianapolis; and great-grandchildren, Peyton Graves and Savannah Hilgemeier.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Valerie McBride; brother, Homer Hardin; and twin brother, Byron Hardin.
Family and friends will gather from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at the mortuary, with the Rev. Aaron Hillyard officiating. Mrs. Gross will be laid to rest in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
