Charles E. Padgett Sr.

Whitestown

1924-2012

Mr. Charles E. Padgett Sr., 87, of Whitestown, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Sept. 16, 1924, in Boone County, son of the now late Oran Lavere and Wilma Eva (Stephenson) Padgett.

He was a resident of Clinton and Boone counties for most of his life, and was a graduate of Jackson Township High School in Clinton County.

Charles moved to Whitestown in 1949, and continued his lifelong career in farming.

He married Karen Merchant on Feb. 14, 1976, in Whitestown. She survives.

Charles enjoyed his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. There were several things Charles loved in his life including homemade ice-cream, sitting in the swing, farming with Buddy, Johnny Cash, playing with his grandkids, Sarah’s cookies, Melissa’s phone call each morning, Robert Redford (the dessert, not the man) and Mike’s lawn.

He was a member of New Hope Christian Church in Whitestown and the Whitestown Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Karen K. Padgett of Whitestown; 10 children, Beth (Yung) Ng, Charles E. (Donna) Padgett Jr., Sarah (Emerson) Eggerichs, Mit (Karen) Padgett, Melanie (Randy) Golden, Kris Perry, Belinda (Ted) Cripe, Melissa “Lissa” (Brian) Hayes, Mike (Becky) Navel and Vicki (Pat) Keller; two siblings, Zillah Pletch and Gerald Padgett; 24 grandchildren, Andrew Ng, Elizabeth Mayberry, Laurie Finley,

Jennee Hallett, Jonathan Eggerichs, David Eggerichs, Joy Eggerichs, Todd Padgett, Chad Padgett, Mitzi Riddle, Mike Roth Maggie Roth, William Bowman, Rebecca Bowman, Joe Bowman, Drew Cripe, Celeste Burau, Jaclyn Keller, Paige Keller, Sidney Keller, Connor Navel, Grace Navel, and twins Hudson Hayes and Asher Hayes; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Padgett, and a sister, Elsie Gary.                      

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 21, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. David Bourne officiating. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.
