Mr. Harold Bruce Hendricks, 95, of Sheridan, formally of Whitestown, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Sheridan Healthcare Center in Sheridan.
Mr. Hendricks was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Harrison County, the son of the now late Alva F. and Mabel Carrie (Routh) Hendricks.
Reared and educated in Harrison County, he graduated from DePauw High School in 1937. In 1944 he moved to Boone County, just south of Lebanon, and in 1965 he moved to his farm home in rural Whitestown.
He married Ina Jean Weathers on Jan. 23, 1938, in Harrison County. Theirs was a loving union that lasted 71 years. Mrs. Hendricks passed away on Dec. 22, 2009.
For many years, Mr. Hendricks farmed grain and raised livestock, retiring in 1983. During the 1950s he also worked for Allison’s and Chrysler for about 10 years. He also had been a custodian with the Lebanon School Corporation for several years.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Harold enjoyed spending time with his family and taking care of the family farm.
He was a member of Gadsden Church of Christ, where he was a longtime elder.
Survivors include two children, Richard L. (Linda) Hendricks of Sheridan and Janice E. (Robert) Stotts of Sellersburg; daughter-in-law, Dixie Hendricks of Whitestown; one brother, Alva C. “J.R.” Hendricks of Lebanon; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Kay (Randy) Rose of Lebanon, Jeffery L. (Rachel) Hendricks and Shelly (Emory) Brown, all of Whitestown, Melissa Lee Ream of Indianapolis, Gina Lynn (Jared) Fennel of New Market, Michael Shane (Susan) Hendricks of Noblesville, Tres (Carrie) Barker of Sheridan, Kerry Jean Hendricks of Crawfordsville, Zachery Malcolm Hester of Shepherdsville, Ky., and Chad Thomas Hester of Madison; and 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Lewis Hendricks, and a brother, Earl Hendricks.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Elder Mike Simms officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
