Margaret D. Voorhis

Mrs. Margaret D. Voorhis, 75, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at her residence.

Born Aug. 12, 1937, in Parke County, she was the daughter of Charles and Roberta Batty. During her high school years, they moved to Lebanon, where she graduated in 1955. After high school, she married her husband of 45 years, Charles R. Voorhis.

Margaret retired from Indiana Bell in 1980. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority (ESA). While a member of ESA she enjoyed organizing the annual golf outing, which benefited Camp Riley for Children With Disabilities. She also served as Brownie Troop Organizer, and taught Sunday school at the First Baptist Church for 12 years. She loved toread, play piano, sew, cook and bake. She was known throughout the community for her homemade noodles.

Survivors include daughters, Lori D. Olds and Darla J. (Emsley) Wright; grandsons, Michael Shane Carpenter, Emsley Wright III and Robert Morgan Wright; great-grandson, Shane Taylor Carpenter; sister, Rebecca Cook; niece, Kelly (Tony Greene) Cook; nephew, Grant Cook; great nieces, Charli and Josi Green; and great-nephew, Jack Tanner Green.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother-in-law, Jack R. Cook.

Visitation is 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Jack Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lebanon Public Library or the Humane Society for Boone County.
