Esther M. Lasley


Lebanon — Mrs. Esther M. Lasley, 86, Lebanon, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Esther May (Reynolds) Lasley was born in Lebanon on Nov. 1, 1923, the daughter of the late Charles and Ida (Wills) Reynolds.

A life resident of Boone County, Esther was a 1942 graduate of Lebanon High School.

On Dec. 24, 1942, in Lebanon she was married to John Edgar Lasley, Jr. who survives. They celebrated 67 years of marriage in December 2009.

Mrs. Lasley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family was a priority in her life and she enjoyed entertaining them and cooking for them. She was the “greatest cook in the world” for her family and had many special dishes she enjoyed making to please them during celebration and family activities. In addition, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, and sewing.

While her children were in school, she was employed as a cook and kitchen worker at Lindbergh School and then at Lebanon High School.  She worked for Leonard Loveless at Leonard’s Sportswear shop for 15 years. She then worked for Cindy Goodnight at Cynthia’s several years until she retired in November 1988.

Memberships:  First Community Church in Lebanon. Previously, she had been a member of the Browns Wonder Church and the Milledgeville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband,  Mr. John E. Lasley, Jr., Lebanon; a daughter Mrs. Patricia M. Adams and husband, Terry J., Brownsburg; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Karen S. Lasley, Lebanon; four grandchildren: Mr. John L. Lasley, Lebanon, Ms. Jennifer S. Lasley, Lebanon Mrs. Amber C. Buckingham and husband, Brett, Grand Rapids, Mich. and Mrs. Holly N. Lawson and husband, Aaron, Pittsboro; six great-grandchildren: Sabrina A. Lasley, Lebanon, John D. Lasley, Lebanon, Autumn P. Barnes, Lebanon, Breck R. Buckingham, Grand Rapids, Mich., Dylan M. Lawson, Pittsboro, and Broderick C. Lawson, Pittsboro. Several nieces and nephews survive.

Mrs. Lasley was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mayor John W. Lasley; a sister, Ruth Loveless, and four brothers, Charles Reynolds, Arthur Reynolds, Robert Reynolds, and her twin brother, Lester Reynolds.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 29, at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon from noon to 4 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 30, at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, the Rev. Harry Pitts officiating. Interment will follow at the Browns Wonder Cemetery east of Lebanon.
