Lebanon — J.D. Plank, 77, Lafayette, died Friday, July 16, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Hospital East in Lafayette.
J.D. Plank was born on Sept. 15, 1932, in Morehead, Ky.He was the son of the now deceased Elmer and Cora Mae (Esham) Plank.
Mr. Plank was reared and educated in Rowan County, Ky., and attended EasternKentuckyUniversityfor one year. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
In Hannibal, Mo., he was married to Mary Jane (Schimmel) Plank. Mrs. Plank preceded him in death in 1986.
During his working career he served as an operating engineer, retiring in 1994.
J.D. was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing cards.
He was a member of Operating Engineers Local No.103, Indianapolis.
Survivors include children Mrs. Patty Jean (husband William) Robinson of Lafayette, Mr. John Dewayne (wife, Cathy) Plank of Darlington, Mrs. Cora Louise (husband Michael) Gibbs of Franklin; five grandchildren Cassandra B. Robinson of Lafayette, Tasha R. Plank of Darlington, Angie R. Mayhew ofr Franklin, Mary E. Gibbs of St. Kitts, West Indies, and James D. (fiancé, Jessica D. Prosch) Plank of Indianapolis; five greatgrandchildren Ce’Nedra Robinson, Jacob Cochran, Kira Sligher, Devin Robinson and Micaela Mayhew; brother Mr. Warren Plank of Morehead, Ky.; and sister Mrs. Dixie Lou (husband, Jim) Blythe of Morehead.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Guy Plank, Homer Plank and Ray Plank; grandson, Christopher John Robinson; and a great-granddaughter, Aiyana Gauvin.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m.Monday, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Services will be 10:30 a.m.on Tuesday, at Myers Chapel of Memories, in Lebanon, Chuck Hickson, Phil Parsons, and Mary E. Gibbs. Interment will follow at WhitemanCemeteryin Michigantown.
