Noble W. Ross, 99, of Sheridan, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Harbor Manor, Noblesville.
He was born Oct. 19, 1913, in Jamestown, to L.W. and Jessie (Mavity) Ross, both now deceased. He was a graduate of Pinell High School and received his undergraduate degree in education and agriculture from Purdue University in 1939. He earned a master’s degree in education from Purdue University.
He married Louise Lillian Allen on June 11, 1939; she died on June 7, 1991. His second marriage was to Edna Pearl Wisman, and she passed away in 1995.
He began his teaching career with Jackson Township school system in Frankfort, where he taught for many years. In 1959 he began teaching at Marion-Adams High School, now part of Sheridan Community Schools, where he taught agriculture, science and biology. He retired in 1989. After retirement, he continued to substitute teach for Sheridan and Noblesville school systems.
He was an FFA advisor at Sheridan High School, and under his leadership the FFA judging teams won many local, state and national championships. He was also a 4-H leader in Hamilton County for many years. He served as the Indiana FFA president.
He was a member of the Sheridan First Christian Church and the Hinkle Masonic Lodge in Deming.
Survivors include one son, John Allen (Karen Lynn Huber-Ross) Ross of Noblesville; and one grandson, Brian Ross of Noblesville.
He was preceded in death by both parents; both spouses; infant daughter, Sharon Louise Ross; three brothers, Walter, John and Leland Ross; and two sisters, Lenore Hausdorfer and Geneva Andrews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the funeral home, with the Rev. V.J. Stover officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery, Lafayette.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hamilton County Humane Society.
