Robert Eugene “Gene” Puff


Mr. Robert Eugene “Gene” Puff, 86, of Lebanon, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.

Mr. Puff was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Brazil, the son of the late Frank R. and Elizabeth (Raybould) Puff. He graduated from Van Buren High School in 1941.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Jan. 31, 1953, he married Agnes R. Woodburn in Brazil. Mrs. Puff survives.

As a young man Mr. Puff worked for Puff Grocery, his family’s business in Cardonia. He worked as a machinist for Hulman and Company of Terre Haute, retiring after forty-two years.

Mr. Puff was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and he enjoyed his family. He was an avid race car fan who enjoyed attending the Indy 500 and the Mini Hulman Speedway in Terre Haute. He enjoyed going to Dunkin’ Doughnuts and visiting with friends every morning. He also loved gardening and going to the airport to watch the airplanes take off and land.

Mr. Puff was a member of St. Mark United Church of Christ in Terre Haute.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes R. Puff of Lebanon; daughter, Sharon Kay Hollingsworth and husband, Vincent L., of Lebanon; two grandchildren, Kristin Nicole Hollingsworth of Lebanon, and fiancé, Matthew Ryan Wollak of Hugo, Minn., and Steven Michael Hollingsworth of Lebanon; sister-in-law, Rosie Puff of Brazil; and nephew, Donnie Puff of Center Point.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Don Puff.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, March 9, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at St. Mark United Church of Christ, 475 Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the church, with Pastor William Price officiating. Interment with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley.
