James Alverd Wethington


Mr. James Alverd Wethington, 76, of Jamestown, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at his home in Jamestown.

A native of Boone County, Mr. Wethington was born in Liberty, Ky., on Nov. 8, 1933, the son of the late Paul Cecil and Edith Carrel (Campbell) Wethington.

On March 22, 1961, in Lebanon, he was married to Sally Jane (Williams) Wethington. Mrs. Wethington died on Aug. 6, 2005.

Mr. Wethington worked as a carpenter for several companies, and also was self-employed. He spent periods as an employee of Menzer Construction, Falender Homes and Coffman Construction, until he retired in 2001.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and he enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Wethington was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Jamestown.

Survivors include four children, James A. (Ellen) Wethington of Bringhurst, Melinda J. (Steven) Kurasiewicz, Beverly A. (Edmond) Vest and Lucy J. Wethington Stamper, all of Jamestown; two brothers, W. Paul Wethington of Springtown, Texas, and Clifton A. Wethington of Lebanon; two sisters: Freida Coffman and Gwen (Eugene) Coffman, all of Jamestown; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the Church of God of Prophecy, 8 W. Elm St., Jamestown. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, at the church, with the Rev. Roger Popplewell officiating. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Jamestown.
