John William Bowman

Fayette — Mr. John William Bowman Sr., 71, of Lebanon, died Saturday, July 17, at St. VincentHospitalin Indianapolis.

Mr. Bowman was born in Muncie, on Feb. 17, 1939, the son of the late Walter Earl and Nellie Lenora (Manning) Bowman.

He attended Seymourschools and entered the United States Navy. After four years in the Navy, he returned to reside in Indianapolis. He moved to Lebanonin 1975.

Mr. Bowman married Sara L. Bryant on June 20, 2000, in Bowling Green, Ky.Mrs. Bowman survives. 

He spent his career working in Indianapoliswith Link Belt, Chrysler Foundry and Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors, retiring in 2003 after twenty-five years of service.

Mr. Bowman was an avid NASCAR fan, and he enjoyed playing billiards, working on cars and building houses. He had three Yorkshire Terriers and supported the humane treatment of animals.

He was a member of Boone Lodge No. 9 F. & A.M. in Lebanonand the American Legion in Lebanon.

Survivors include his wife, who resides in Lebanon; children, Stephen W. (Dwan) Bowman of Falmouth, Ky., John W. (Tami) Bowman Jr. of Pittsboro, Yvonne R. (Dave) Bines of Avon, Julie A. (Brad) West of Fairfield, Ohio, Bruce R. (Patty) Bowman of Danville and Brian K. (Candy) Bowman of Lebanon; stepdaughter, Julie A. (William K.) Fletcher of Whitestown; two brothers, Robert (Doris) Bowman of Greencastle and Michael (Rose)  Bowman of Lebanon; and 19 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Bowman, and two sisters, Beverly Wills and Pat Sturgeon.

Visitation will be held from 4to 8 p.m.Tuesday, July 20, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon.  Masonic rites are planned for 7:30 p.m.Tuesday. Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m.Wednesday, July 21, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. David Wright officiating. Entombment with military rites will follow at LincolnMemoryGardensin BooneCounty.
