Nellie “Ida” McKinney

1923-2012

Mrs. Nellie “Ida” McKinney, 89, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation at Parkwood, Lebanon.

Ida was born in Mt. Vernon, Ky., on March 14, 1923. She was a daughter of the now late Benjamin H. and Lillie Mae (Reynolds) Childress.

She married Robert Sherman “R.S.” McKinney on June 23, 1941, in Jonesboro, Tenn. He passed away Sept. 25, 1994. Ida worked for a period of time at Alton Box Company in Lebanon, and as a dishwasher at a coffee shop.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and homemaker, she loved taking care of her family. Ida also enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, sewing and playing card games.

Survivors include eight children, Lena (Mitch) True of Lexington, Ky., Jean (Chuck) Hoover of Melbourne, Fla., Bobby Lee (Linda) McKinney of Crawfordsville, Dorothy Mae (J.B.) Wright of Franklin, Ky., Billy (Patricia) McKinney of Monterey, Tenn., Patty Black of Lebanon, Danny Neal (Jennifer) McKinney of Memphis, Mo., and

Mary Ida Shaw of Lebanon; four siblings, Buddy, Jean, Glenna and Corenne; and 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Robert E. Hackler officiating. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
