— Whitestown Mr. John Edward Allen, 90, of Whitestown, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Zionsville Meadows in Zionsville. Mr. Allen was born in Boone County, on March 10, 1920, the son of Pastor Charles Edward and Orpha Mae (Byrkett) Allen. He married Evelyn June Drury on May 16, 1942, in Indianapolis. Mr. Allen was reared and educated in Cicero, and graduated from Indiana Academy in Cicero in 1939. He attended La Sierra University in La Sierra, Calif. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served four years as an x-ray technician. He worked for Methodist Hospital and the University of Chicago as an x-ray technician. He later went to work for Phillips Corporation selling x-ray equipment. After his retirement, he worked for Indiana Asphalt, part time for Sears, and the city of Whitestown as Street Commissioner. He was a member of Glendale 7th Day Adventist Church in Indianapolis. Survivors include a daughter, Jana L. Withrow and husband, Daryl, of Whitestown; and two sisters, Donna Belle Luke of Everson, Wash., and Bonnie L. Wolfe of Cicero. He was preceded in death by a brother, Garold Allen, and a sister, Dorothy M. Allen. Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Glendale 7th Day Adventist Church, 2900 E. 62nd Street, Indianapolis. Interment will follow, with military rites at a later date, in Pleasant View Cemetery, Whitestown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Academy, 24815 Ind. 19N, Cicero, IN 46034.
