Alma Lee York

— Alma Lee York, of Frankfort, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010.

Alma was the oldest of 11 children born to Roy Lee and Ada Bell York, who preceded her in death.

She was born Aug. 28, 1939, in Camile, Ky. Her family moved to Indiana when she was 7 years old.

Alma graduated from Frankfort High School in 1957, then joined the U.S. Army. After her discharge, she moved to Indianapolis, where she worked for Elmer Warren & Associates. Mr. Warren was more than her employer. He became like a second father to her. She retired in 2001 from the Clinton County Welfare Office.

She enjoyed reading, NASCAR, cats and listening to Neil Diamond, but mostly she enjoyed her family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Tara York, granddaughter, Tricia Twitty, and two great-granddaughters, Isabelle and Cheyenne Echeverria, who lovingly called her “Gmama,” all of Lebanon. Also surviving are five brothers and five sisters, Alvin (Mary) York of Central Point, Ore., Louie York of Jasper, Linda (Larry) Abbott of Monticello, Greg (Linda) York of Lafayette, Debi (Dennis) Thomas of Wingate, Denny York, Mari Howe, Anna (Bob) Marcum and Patty Buck, all of Frankfort, and Glen (Diane) York of Lebanon; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

There will be no viewing, but from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, which would have been Alma’s 71st birthday, there will be a memorial service to celebrate Alma’s life here on Earth at Faith Family Ministries, 508 W. Green St., Frankfort.
