Mary Margaret Merrill

 Mrs. Mary Margaret Merrill, 88, of Indianapolis, and formerly of Boone County and Lebanon, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born in Boone County half a mile from Elizaville on Dec. 4, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Everett Bryan and Lemedia “Media” (Burgess) Louks.

Mrs. Merrill attended and graduated from of Kirklin High School in 1941. She then resided in Indianapolis for four years, where she took a stenograph course from Indiana Business College. From 1941 to 1945 she worked for Pittman-Moore in Zionsville doing stenographic work. In addition, she helped her husband with the operation of the Merrill Insurance Agency from 1960 to 1983.

She married Meredith James Merrill on Dec. 16, 1945, in Kirklin. Mr. Merrill died Feb. 4, 2010. The couple spent most of their married years in Clinton Township and moved to Lebanon in 1989. She resided at Brookdale Place at Fall Creek for the last 7 1/2 years.

Family was important to her, as well as church. Her interests included gardening, canning, freezing and sewing.

Mrs. Merrill was an active member of the First Community Church in Lebanon from 1962 to 2002, and a 50-plus year member of the Clinton Township Home Economics Club.

Survivors include two children, David L. (Nancy) Merrill of Cleveland, Ohio, and Donna K. (John) Shank of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, John B. Shank III of Carmel, Robert E. Shank and Debra A. Lawrence of Noblesville, and Christina Mars of Cleveland, Ohio; and eight great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Robert Wayne Louks and Donald Louks, preceded her in death.

Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. today, Dec. 4, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Shikany officiating. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.
