Roy Malcolm Edwards

Mr. Roy Malcolm Edwards, 80, of Lebanon, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.

Roy was born in Davies County, on May 30, 1932, the son of the now late John S. and Mona Shilo (Rodgers) Edwards.

He was a 1949 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. Following school, Roy enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably from 1950 to 1952. He moved to Lebanon in 1960, and had resided here since.

He married Mary K. Reed on June 16, 1956, in Indianapolis. Mrs. Edwards survives.

Roy was employed for several years by Ross Poultry and then Perdue Farms in the Thorntown area, retiring in July 2006.

He was a member of First Community Church in Lebanon, and had served as the Sunday school superintendent, bus driver and head usher. For a period of time, he was active with the youth group.

A devoted family man, Roy loved the time spent with family and grandchildren. He enjoyed camping and traveling, having traveled to Egypt and Israel and many of the states in the USA. In addition, he enjoyed gardening and helping out his neighbors from time to time.

Survivors include his wife, Mary K. Edwards of Lebanon; two daughters, Sandra (Doyle) Flynn of Boswell and Debbie Dunbar of Lebanon; two brothers, Robert (Carol) Edwards of Westfield and Russell Edwards of Indianapolis; and seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Solomon, and two brothers, Charles Edwards and Douglas Edwards.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 11, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Myers Chapel of Memories. Entombment, with military rites, will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.
