Matthew Palmer

Matthew Palmer, 36, of Albion, passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 at the Northridge Village Nursing and Rehab Center after a 5 year battle with complications from a brain tumor. He previously resided in Colfax, Thorntown and Lafayette.

Matthew was born Aug. 20, 1973, in Kendallville to Larry J. and Ruth Ann (Irven) Palmer. He graduated from Central Noble High in 1992. He was also a graduate of Purdue Winter Ag School and went on to attend Vincennes University and Purdue University.

He was employed at Galema’s Greenhouse and Bennett’s Greenhouse, both in Lafayette, where he was Nursery Production Manager.

He was a member of the Albion Asbury United Methodist Church, where he attended frequently, also the Noble County Gas and Steam Assoc. Matthew was a 10-year Noble County 4-H member and won the coveted Tops in 4-H award.

Matthew’s hobbies included ballroom dancing. While attending Purdue, he became a member of the Purdue Ballroom Dance team and later went on to attend several ballroom dance events throughout his life. He also loved spending as much time as possible with his daughter, Alice. Their favorite pastime was going to the park together.

Survivors include his parents, who reside in Albion; his daughter, Alice L. Palmer of Thorntown; maternal grandmother, Dortha Irven of Albion; a brother and sister-in-law, Douglas A. and Teresa Palmer of Albion; three nephews, Bradley, Wesley and Wyatt Palmer.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Donald Irven and paternal grandparents, John C. and Florence Palmer.

Visitation will be 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Brazzell Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Albion Chapel, 771 Trailridge Road, Albion. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 600 E. Main St., Albion, with the Rev. Bret Frymier officiating. There will also be an additional hour of calling on Friday at the church prior to the service. Following the service, burial will take place at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.

The family suggests memorials, in lieu of flowers, be directed to the Asbury United Methodist Church, 600 E. Main St., Albion, IN 46701 or to the Noble County 4-H program, 2090 N. State Road 9, Albion, IN 46701.
