John E. Ward

Mr. John E. Ward, 90, of Frankfort, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013.

He was born Oct. 23, 1922, in Boone County, a son of Clifford M. and Mary Edith (Gaddis) Ward. He attended  Kirklin Schools.

Mr. Ward married Grace B. Bolland on Dec. 2, 1944, in Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mrs. Ward survives.

He was a World War II veteran, and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1947.

Mr. Ward coached several little league teams in Kirklin and Lebanon. He also was the groundskeeper at Frankfort Rotary Baseball Diamond for several years. He was a carpenter, and enjoyed woodworking in his shop. His hobbies were camping and fishing. He also enjoyed playing golf at Angel Hill Golf Course, where he got a hole-in-one two different times.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one sister, Mary Katherine (Ward) Davis of Kirklin; six daughters, Vicki (Nathan) Hale of Frankfort, Georgia (Dave) Wells and Sandy (Bubs) Ashley, all of Lebanon, Barbara (Donnie) Martin of Advance, Tina (Kenny) Burns of Thorntown and Terry Belmarez of Frankfort; and one son, Bill (Sandy) Ward of Lebanon. He also was survived and loved by 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dortha Jean; a brother, Clifford Jr. “Cuff”; and one grandson, Adam Ashley.

He donated his remains to Indiana University Medical Center, and no services are planned at this time.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
