Doris Marie Ferguson

— Mrs. Doris Marie Ferguson, 95, of Sheridan, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation at Parkwood in Lebanon.

Mrs. Ferguson was born Feb. 10, 1917, in Clinton County. She was a daughter of the late Ora McNeil and Iva Pearl (Parsons) Harshman.

In 1934, Mrs. Ferguson graduated from Colfax High School. She passed courses to become a nursing aide, and from 1967 to 1980 she was employed by Witham Memorial Hospital. Following her work at the hospital, for the next two years she was a private-duty nursing aide.

On June 2, 1934, Doris married Lotis “Emerson” Ferguson in Clinton County. After 41 years of marriage Emerson passed away July 23, 1975.

Following their marriage, the couple spent three years in Flint, Mich., before returning to Clinton County, north of Frankfort, where they farmed. They then moved to Boone County near rural Sheridan, where they continued farming. From 1947 to 1953, they were residents of Rushville.  

Mrs. Ferguson was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She enjoyed working with ceramics.

She was a member of Lebanon Christian Church and the Witham Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Survivors include children, Danny R. Ferguson of Lebanon, Robert J. (Peggy) Ferguson of Sheridan and Shirley J. (Robert) Morgan of Rushville; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by a son, Thomas O. Ferguson; a daughter, Wanda S. Marsh; four brothers, Lester Harshman, Ralph Harshman, Jay Harshman and Lloyd Harshman; and a sister, Leota McManama.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Myers Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Waugh.
