Emogene Kibbey Shapley, 94, of Lebanon, died Sunday, Sept. 9 at Crown Pointe Assisted Living Center in Lebanon. She was born in Boone County on January 24, 1918; the daughter of the now late Elza Guy and Martha (Huddleston) Kibbey.
She was a graduate of Jamestown High School Class of 1935. She married John Shapley on Nov. 15, 1936 and for many years they farmed west of Dover until building the J&M Marathon service station in 1957. She began working in the insurance business and retired from Transamerica Insurance in 1980.
She was very active in the Order of Eastern Star in Lebanon and a lifelong member of the Dover Christian Church. She and her husband spent many winters in Bonita Springs, Florida until his passing in 1991. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and will be missed by all. Emogene was an avid Indiana University and Indianapolis Pacers fan.
Survivors include her children Judy (C.B. Barney) Faulkenburg of Georgetown, Indiana and Carol (Steve) Cox of Franklin; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years and one granddaughter.
Family and friends will gather from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 with the Rev. John Puckett officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Mrs. Shapley will be laid to rest in the Dover Cemetery.
