Mary Katherine Pell

Mrs. Mary Katherine Pell, 83, of Lebanon, died Thursday, August 14, 2008, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Mrs. Pell was born March 27, 1925, in Indianapolis. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Edward and Velma Aletha (VanHorn) Elliott. A graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, Mrs. Pell spent most of her life in Indianapolis. It was there she met and fell in love with her husband Wesley Forrest Pell, whom she married on Oct. 4, 1947, in Indianapolis. They moved to Lebanon in 1970 and remained there. Mr. and Mrs. Pell were happily married for over sixty years. Mr. Pell survives and resides in Lebanon.

She found time to work outside the home at various positions she enjoyed. In Indianapolis she was employed at Curtis-Wright, Wasson’s Department Store, Horner’s Dinner Bell Cafeteria and the Dairy Queen. She sold Avon after moving to Lebanon.

Mrs. Pell was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Known for her award-winning desserts, she best expressed her love for her family and friends through her food. Never did a holiday or birthday go by without her noodles or fudge.

Love for her husband, five children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren was never ending. Her support of their athletics successes, academic accomplishments and everyday achievements gave her great joy. She will be missed.

Survivors include her husband; five children, Susan K. Whisenand and husband, Burt, of Lebanon, Sally A. Elliott and husband, John, of Lebanon, Stephen W. Pell and wife, Sara, of Zionsville, Sandra L. Callahan and husband, Patrick, of Zionsville, and Scott D. Pell and wife, Helen Marie, of Lebanon; one brother, David L. Elliott and wife, Jackie, of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Rusin and husband, Steve, of Chicago, Ill., Amanda Coate and husband, Rick, of Sacramento, Calif., Andrea Elliott of Chicago, Katharine Pell of Zionsville, Courtney Redman and husband, Ryan, of Lebanon, Craig Callahan of Zionsville, Caitlin Callahan of Zionsville, and Olivia and Jacob Pell of Lebanon; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah Rusin, Joshua Rusin, Lola Coate and Milo Coate.

Visitation will be held 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services are to be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Myers Chapel of Memories. Entombment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.
