Ovid Ray Scott

Mr. Ovid Ray Scott, 68, of Lebanon, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Parkwood Health Care Center in Lebanon. Mr. Scott was born Sept. 26, 1940, in Lebanon, the son of Cecil W. and Naomi Leona (Covey) Scott.

A lifelong resident of Boone County, Mr. Scott graduated from Pinnell High School in 1958. He served on active duty in the United States Air Force for four years and remained active in the reserves until 1967.

Mr. Scott married Pamela Joan (Belcher) Scott on Jan. 26, 1968, in Whitestown; Mrs. Scott survives.

He spent his career as an employee of Allison Transmission, a division of General Motors Corporation, in Plant 3 in Indianapolis, retiring in 1993. Following his retirement until 1995, he worked at McClure Oil in Lebanon and Shell Oil and Crystal Flash in Whitestown.

Mr. Scott was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed camping and fishing and was a NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan.

He was a member of the Concord Baptist Church and served two terms as president of the Lebanon Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survivors include his wife, who resides in Lebanon; two children, Anthony R. “Tony” Scott and wife, Marlene, and Amy M. Hoover and husband, Robert, all of Whitestown; one brother, Charles Scott and wife, Jean, of Lizton; one sister, Rosalie Finney and husband, George, of Lebanon; one sister-in-law, Helen Scott of LaPorte; four grandchildren, Andrew G. Scott of Whitestown, Adam W. Johnson and wife, Jennifer, of Greenwood, and Nickolas J. Hoover and Justin M. Hoover, both of Whitestown; one great-grandson, Bryce H. Johnson of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brother, Earl J. Scott.

Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Fred Tanselle officiating. Interment will follow military rites at Lincoln Memory Gardens near Whitestown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boone County Cancer Society, 117 W. Elm St., Lebanon, IN 46052.
