Bette J. Blackwell

1929-2012

Bette Jean Blackwell, 83, passed away Saturday Oct. 20, 2012, at St. Vincent Clay Hospital in Brazil.

Bette was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Greensfork, to Willis and Mona Fulwider.

She graduated Lebanon High School before marrying Bob Blackwell.

After raising three children, Bette graduated from ISU with a bachelor’s degree in English and later a master’s degree in reading. Bette taught for Clay Community Schools for 17 years. She also was an accomplished artist, poet and bread baker.

Bette was a member of the First Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Blackwell; son, Steve Blackwell; and sister, Patti Fulwider.

Survivors include daughters, Melodie (Dave) Staley of Brazil and Becky Stewart of Terre Haute; daughter-in-law, Margie Blackwell of Punta Gorda, Fla.; grandchildren, Phebe Westby, Japhy Blackwell, Carrie Hussey, Staci McIntyre, Brian Stewart, Jenni Mesanovic and Jared Staley; seven great-grandchildren; and cherished Yorkie, Cupid.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil, 142 N. Washington St., Brazil, IN 47834. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or the Humane Society.
