Joan Olive Davis

— Mrs. Joan Olive Davis, 88, of Darlington, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at her residence.

Mrs. Davis was born March 4, 1924, in Manchester, England, to James F. and Laura (Turner) Hamblett. Both parents are deceased. She graduated from Manchester England High School.

She married Gerald H. Davis on Feb. 7, 1945, in Stockport, England. He died Jan. 17, 1997.

She owned Davis Dry Goods Store in Darlington for many years, then was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm.

Mrs. Davis went to her daughter’s beauty shop in Colfax every day for the past 14 years. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She loved to read and was an avid basketball fan.

She was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Colfax.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda K. Winger of Thorntown; son, Ron (Roxanne) Davis of Colfax; grandchildren, Michael Davis of Colfax, Missy Cosby of Darlington, and Jeff Winger, Joe Winger and Jayme Winger, all of Thorntown; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, Oct. 4, at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, 116 W. Plum St., Thorntown. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home in Thorntown, with Joe Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery in Colfax.
