Mrs. Rosemary Martin, 96, was a lifelong resident of Lebanon; however, in 2006 she became a resident of Columbus, Ohio, to be near her daughter. She passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Arlington Court in Columbus.
Rosemary was born May 25, 1916, in Lebanon, the daughter of the now late Vern and Zora (Huffman) Martin. Raised and educated in Lebanon, she graduated from Lebanon High School.
She married Charles E. Martin on June 19, 1937, in Danville. Mr. Martin passed away on Jan. 27, 2001.
Rosemary worked in downtown Indianapolis in the jewelry departments at L.S. Ayres and L. Strauss. For many years, she assisted her father, Vern Martin, clerking at local area auction sales. She also worked as a receptionist for two local dentists, Dr. Travis Osborne and, for several years, Dr. Gary French. At one time, Rosemary was head of the Boone County March of Dimes. She was the first woman appointed to the Lebanon City Planning Commission.
An important part of Rosemary’s life was her family and friends. She loved spending time with them and entertaining them, as she was an excellent cook. She took great pleasure in landscape gardening and was a skilled seamstress and knitter. Among other interests, Rosemary was an avid reader and she enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling with her husband, Charles.
She was a former member of Tri Kappa in Lebanon.
Survivors include daughter, Mary Kay (Bob) Arbogast of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, John C. (Amy Shin) Webb of Columbus and Stephanie (Andy) Ware of Cincinnati, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Derrick Ware and Amanda Ware, both of Cincinnati; brother-in-law, Addison Howard of Lebanon; and nieces, Karen Boone and Marlene Bennington, both of Lebanon.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Rosemary was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Ellen Otterman, and son-in-law, Bob Otterman.
Visitation is 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services are to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Jim Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693 — www.heart.org/donate; or to the Lebanon Public Library, 104 E. Washington St., Lebanon, IN 46052.
