Mr. Murl A. Pemberton, 97, of Lebanon, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Pemberton was born June 6, 1915, in Casey County, Ky., the son of the now late Sam and Nannie Pemberton. He attended schools in Casey County. Following school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably.
In 1932, he moved to Indiana. He lived in Indianapolis and Zionsville prior to moving to Lebanon, where he has resided for the past 20 years.
On Oct. 17, 1975, he married Jane Dinsmore in Zionsville; Mrs. Pemberton survives. They were married for 37 years.
For many years, Mr. Pemberton worked at J & L Steel in Indianapolis, retiring in January 1978.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and Yahtzee, and he loved watching his wife while she was gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Pemberton of Lebanon; daughter-in-law, Wanda (Pemberton) Hoogeveen; four grandchildren, Tammie (companion, Suzanne Thompson) Pemberton, James (companion, Roxanne) Pemberton Jr., Erik (Kathy) Boswell and Lisa Boswell; three great-grandchildren, Elijah Pemberton, Jason Boswell and Julianna Boswell; three sisters-in-law, Joanna (Richard) Hunter, Martha Scott and Helen Dinsmore; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Willie Pemberton, Brodus Pemberton and Stanley Pemberton; a son, James L. Pemberton Sr.; a stepson, William Boswell; and his first wife, Marjorie Pemberton.
Visitation is noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Matt Skiles officiating. Interment, with military rites, will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
