James O. Redman

Thorntown

1938-2009

James Otto Redman, Thorntown, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at home. He was 71.

Mr. Redman was born in Kempton, on March 19, 1938, the son of the late Doyal G. and Fleeda R.  (Rude) Redman. They moved to Thorntown in 1938 from Kempton.

Mr. Redman was reared and educated in Thorntown where he graduated from Thorntown High School in 1956.

On Aug. 30, 1957, in Lebanon, Indiana he married Geraldine (Culley) Redman. Mrs. Redman survives.

Mr. Redman spent his career as a farmer, and carpenter in the Boone County area and retired in 1998.  Early in his career he had been an employee at Montgomery Wards in Lebanon and then at Stream Line Trailers in Thorntown.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed his family and spending time with them. He also enjoyed gardening, reading, collecting toy tractors and coins.

He was a Methodist and Baptist.

Other survivors include children Mr. James D. Redman of Thorntown, Mrs. Kathy Gasaway of Flora, and Ms. Jeanette K. Redman of Thorntown; brothers Mr. Tom Redman of Alpha, Ky., Mr. John (wife Mary Lou) Redman of Lebanon; sisters Mrs. Doyla Jo (husband Craig) Cooper of Frankfort and Mrs. Janet Kinslow of Thorntown; three Grandchildren Joshua James Redman, Karin D. Gasaway and Kris E. Gasaway;two great-grandchildren Gracie Redman, J. D. Redman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was prededed in death by four sisters, Iris Craig, Jeannie Fisher, Joyce Redman, and Elaine Redman; and a brother, LaRon “Butch” Redman.

Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Thorntown United Methodist Church, 201 N. Market St., Thorntown. Memorial Services immediately follow; the Rev. Alan Moody officiating.

Family Graveside services will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.

Myers Mortuary are entrusted with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to either the Thorntown Volunteer Fire Department, 400 N. Pearl St., Thorntown, IN 46071, or to the Boone County Cancer Society, 117 W. Elm St., Lebanon, IN 46052.
