James Thomas “Tom” Shoup

Mr. James Thomas “Tom” Shoup, 70, of Michigantown, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Mr. Shoup was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Clinton County, to Stewart Earl and Helen Dorothy (Caldwell) Shoup.

He married Carol Anne McCain on Sept. 17, 1960, at Hopewell Church; she survives.

Mr. Shoup was a 1957 graduate of Michigantown High School, attended Purdue University and was a lifelong Clinton County resident.

He farmed and raised hogs until 1978, when he then purchased the meat processing plant now known as Shoup’s Country Foods.

Mr. Shoup’s church family was the Hopewell United Methodist Church. He was a longtime supporter of FFA and 4-H. He enjoyed fishing, horses and mules. His biggest delight was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, who resides in Michigantown; three daughters, Cindy Kay (Robert) Cacy of rural Frankfort, Cheri Elaine (Chris) Dayton of Arcadia and Amy Lynn (Scott) Mennen of rural Frankfort; one sister, Jane (Tom) Sheets of Vonore, Tenn.; one brother, Denny (Marilyn) Shoup of rural Michigantown; 10 grandchildren, Jesse and Morgan Cacy, Jared and Joshua Inman, Chase, Alessandra and Taylor Dayton, and Reece, Kallie and Creed Mennen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Robert Shoup.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Whiteman Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Clinton County 4-H Building Improvement Fund or North East Ambulance Service, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
