Thorntown

1932-2009

Morris Earl Coffman, 77, Thorntown, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2009, at home.

Mr. Coffman was born Jan. 22, 1932, in Boone County, the son of Rufus Coffman, Sr. and Sarah Ann (Wolf) Coffman; they preceded him in death.

Mr. Coffman was reared and educated in Thorntown. He was married on Dec. 25, 1976, in Thorntown, to Ruth Marie Houward; she survives.

For 30 years, Mr. Coffman worked for Conrail Railroad in Lafayette, Indiana as a gateman.

Morris was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed his family, fishing, golfing and spending time outside.

He was a member of Lebanon Rock Church.

Other survivors include two children, Mr. Clayton L. (wife Katrina) Rice of Brookston, and Mr. Audie M. Rice of Tennessee; sister-in-law: Shirley Coffman of Lebanon; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by son, Spyke Ade Rice; two brothers, Howard Coffman and Rufus Coffman, Jr.; and a sister, Betty Scering.

Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. on Monday at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Services will be 2 p.m. on Monday, at Myers Chapel of Memories; the Rev. Matt J. Skiles officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.
