Everett Allen
Mr. Everett Allen, 83, of Lebanon, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Allen was born in Rockcastle County, Ky., on March 14, 1926, the son of the late Wilce and Armenda (Hale) Allen.
He resided in Rockcastle County before and after his period of service in the U.S. Army, from 1941 to 1946, during World War II. He served in the European and Pacific Theaters and was the recipient of a Bronze Star.
On Feb. 19, 1955, he married Hazel Edith VanWinkle, in Berea, Ky. Mrs. Allen survives. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Lebanon.
Mr. Allen’s career was spent in the landscaping field and he was employed for a total of thirty years by the Zionsville firm of Altum Landscaping Company. He retired from there in 1986.
His interests included music. He was a talented musician having played various string instruments. He liked woodworking and was meticulous about keeping his yard in great shape. As a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed his family.
Mr. Allan was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Lebanon.
Survivors include his wife, who resides in Lebanon; four children, Donald R. Allen and wife, Carolyn, of Whitestown, Carolyn A. Lamb of Lebanon, Doris K. “Dee” Smith and husband, Mark, of Lebanon and Barbara J. Slagle and husband, Mike, of Lebanon; a sister, Della Vann and husband, William, of Pickard; seven grandchildren, Jason Allen of Whitestown, Justin Allen of Whitestown, Amanda L. Perez and husband, Israel, of Norfolk, Va., Christina M. DeWitt and husband, Jon, of Lebanon, Kevin W. Hale of Lebanon, Christopher M. Slagle and wife, Tino, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Joshua R. Slagle of Indianapolis; 12 great-grandchildren, Zachary Allen, Abby Allen, Angel Allen, Ashton Allen, Ashley Allen, Daniel L. Perez, Christian R. Perez, Alexis M. DeWitt, Ava DeWitt, Myckah Slagle, Maia Slagle and Mythaus Slagle.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by a stillborn son; a granddaughter, Melissa Lamb; three brothers, Kelly Allen, Earl Allen and Charles Allen; and two sisters, Maudie Hale and Burlie Basil.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Hurshel D. Hale officiating. Burial will follow military rites at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
Memorials contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
