Martha L. Batts

Martha L. Batts, 87, Lebanon, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.

Mrs. Batts was born in Hendricks County, on April 17, 1922. She was the only child of the late George Washington and Lula Mae (Osborn) Palmer.

She married Frank Edward Batts on Sept. 13, 1941, in Indianapolis. Mr. Batts died Feb. 12, 2000.

Mrs. Batts lived in the Jamestown area and attended Hendricks County Schools. She was a 1940 graduate of North Salem High School.

As a devoted wife and homemaker, she cared for her husband and children. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and was interested and involved in their lives and activities. As her family continued to expand, she helped to welcome 16 great-grandchildren with much love and affection.

She played the piano for church, choir and Bible school at New Brunswick Church of Christ and, more recently, at New Hope Christian Church near Whitestown, where she was a member. As she enjoyed her home, she liked to cook, can and crochet.

Survivors include three children, Ronald P. (Linda) Batts of West Lebanon, Edward E. (Janette) Batts of Anderson and Marty (Keith) Campbell of Lebanon; eight grandchildren, David (Robyn) Batts of Ambia, Amy (Dan) Weaver of Seymour, Mark (Lynne) Batts of Elburn, Ill., Amanda Johnson of Danville, Ill., Keri (Chuck) Taulman of Indianapolis, Craig (Heather) Campbell of Greenfield, Nathan Batts of Mooresville and Megan Batts of Indianapolis; 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Batts was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Christina Batts.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Myers Chapel of Memories. Rev. David Bourne will officiate. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon.
