George Edward Finney


Mr. George Edward Finney, 85, of Lebanon, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.

George was born on May 16, 1924, the son of the late Samuel and Mable (Brown) Finney. He lived in Rushville until he moved to Lebanon in 1996.

He married Clara Ellen Creech in 1950, in Rushville. Clara died in 1990. He married Rosalie (Scott) Haney on March 12, 1993, in Connersville. Rosalie survives.

In Rushville, George left school to farm, first for others and then for himself. He worked at a sawmill for a short time and then left that job to work for his aunt, farming in Rush County until his retirement in 1990.

George was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who took great pride in his family. He enjoyed fishing, model trains and having a good time.

He was a member of Lebanon Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Finney of Lebanon; two stepsons, Donald Lee Haney and wife, Vivian, and David Scott Haney and wife, Carol, all of Lebanon; and six grandchildren, Heather Kay Haney and Daniel Lee Haney, both of Vincennes, and Melissa Riner, Scott Halsey, Kala Marie Haney and Amanda Diane Haney, all of Lebanon.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Alan Finney, and two brothers, John Franklin Finney and James Robert Finney.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Lee Faust and Chaplain Mark Graybiel officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
