Berga Carol Smith, 70, of Avon, formerly of Thorntown, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Avon Health and Rehabilitation Center in Avon.
She was born Nov. 28, 1939, in Danville, the daughter of the late George and Mildred (Ferguson) Green. She graduated from Davnille High School in 1956.
For several years, Mrs. Smith was an executive secretary for Red Ball in Indianapolis.
She was a Girl Scout leader and president of the P.T.A. at Brookside School #54 and School #101. She also was very active in the Republican Party.
She loved music and dancing, and she was an avid reader.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Forrest Swisher of Indianapolis and Jeffery Scott Swisher of San Diego, Calif.; three daughters, Cindy Anne Ragan of Indianapolis, Renee Suzanne DeGutis of German Tenn., and Laura Marie Smith of Columbus, Ind.; one brother, Phillip Green of St. Charles, Ill.; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, 116 W. Plum, Thorntown. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gene Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Thorntown.
