Clyde A. Benton

Mr. Clyde A. Benton, 76, of Lebanon, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at his Lebanon residence.

He was born in Gate City, Va., on Feb. 25, 1937, the son of the now late Loren Kelly and Ida Marie (Caudle) Benton.

Reared and educated in Gate City, Va., Mr. Benton attended Shoemaker High School.

Clyde married Wilma Jane (Shirley) Benton, on April 5, 1957, at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon, Mrs. Benton survives.

Following school, he moved to Lebanon where he was a construction worker. He had worked on the Lebanon High School gymnasium. Clyde also worked for Commercial Filters for four years and for Woods Wholesale for eight years. He retired from Prarie Industries in 2008.

Clyde was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lebanon.

Survivors include wife Mrs. Wilma J. Benton of Lebanon; two children, Mr. Benjamin K. Benton and wife Martha of Sudbury, Mass.; and Mr. Brian Dean Benton of Lebanon; two grandchildren, Alex and Ethan Benton of Sudbury, Mass.; and cousin Mrs. Colleen Flanary and husband Dewey of Gate City, Va.

In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by an infant son, Brent Alyn Benton, and his sister, Wilma Marlene Lacey.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 8, at the funeral home, with Dr. Morris Jones officiating.

Interment will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
