Fred Warren

Fred Warren, 61, of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at his home.

He was born June 3, 1951, in Crawfordsville, the son of Damon Cook Warren and Helen Frances “Fannie” Warren. He was a 1969 graduate of Darlington High School and, in 1974, earned a master’s degree from Indiana State in criminology.

Mr. Warren was an Indiana State Police officer for 37 years, retiring as a sergeant. He enjoyed working with the Indy 500 and state fair as well as other major events. He was a member of the F.O.P. He served on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club for more than 20 years. In addition, he coached little league baseball, was a basketball referee, and ran marathons and mini-marathons. He was baptized at the Darlington United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Derek (Abby) Warren of Lebanon and Jared Warren of Indianapolis; brother, Charlie (Leslie Ann) Warren of Crawfordsville; and one granddaughter, whom he adored, Hadley Warren of Lebanon.

Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Burkhart Funeral Home, 300 S. Grant Avenue, Crawfordsville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, at the funeral home, with Pastor Marcy Patrick presiding. Burial with full police honors will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Darlington.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred’s memory can be made to the Darlington Public Library, P.O. Box 248, Darlington, IN 47940.
