Juanita Thompson

Juanita Thompson, 92, of Sheridan, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Sheridan Healthcare Center.

She was born May 5, 1920, in Boone County. She was the daughter of Wiley and Maude (Wright) Walker.

She was a 1938 graduate of Sheridan High School. On June 18, 1939, she married Larue Thompson, and he preceded her in death on April 7, 1996.

Juanita was secretary/treasurer for the Sheridan School System for more than 26 years, retiring in 1988, but she continued volunteering at the superintendent’s office for many years after her retirement. She was also a homemaker and assisted her late husband with farming.

She was an active member of the Terhune United Methodist Church and Ladies Aide, as well as the Boone County Homemakers Extension Club in Marion Township. She was a member of the Sheridan Chapter of the Sweet Adelines singing group. Juanita and her husband were avid square dancers. She loved gardening and was known in the community for her lovely vegetable and tomato harvests.

She is survived by three sons, Robert L. “Butch” Thompson (Gloria) of Martinsville, Jeffrey J. Thompson (Kathy) of Sugar Grove, Ill., and Randall J. Thompson (Liz) of Fayetteville, Ark.; four grandchildren, Troy Thompson, Wendy Spoor, Suzanne Thompson and Scott Thompson; and two great-grandchildren, Delaney and Madelyn Spoor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, her son Don K., and two sisters, Jean Walker and Elsie Fern Hillock.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 East 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation from 9 a.m. until time of service. The Reverend Frank Ciampa will officiate. Burial will follow in Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan.
