The family of Charles R. Smith Jr., lost a dearly beloved son, brother, uncle and friend in Junior, as the angels took him home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012.
He was born Oct. 19, 1952.
He owned and operated the Lil Arrow Shop, in Mace, for 35 years, and he was also a dealer for Precision Shooting Equipment. He was at one time employed by Glen and Edna Deckard. He retired from Raybestos in September 2012, after 40 years, due to his illness.
He was a 1972 graduate of South Montgomery High School.
Survivors include his parents, Charles and Barbara Smith of Mace; sisters, Sharon, Shari (Brian) Sillery of Parkersburg and Jeanette (Michael ) Newlin of Crawfordsville; and brother, Roy (Cindy) Smith of New Market. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews — his best friend and nephew, Anthony (Rhonda) Smith of Crawfordsville, Brandy (Jeremy) Bennett of Crawfordsville, Christin Fisher of Parkersburg, Jennifer (Matthew) McGaughey of Roachdale, Adam (Robin) Smith of Crawfordsville; great-nephew, Cody Smith; great-nieces, Brie, Ashley and Chelsey Smith; great-great-nephew, Owen Bennett of Crawfordsville; and great-great-niece, Karley Fisher of Parkersburg.
He was blessed with dear friends, Larry (Shonda) Walker and family, and Larry Mason and family.
He was a member of several clubs including the NRA, United Steel Workers, Safari, Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, Crawfordsville Gun Club and the Wabash Club. He also assisted teaching and judging archery for the boys’ and girls’ 4-H. He was a member of Pilgrim Chapel Church, located on Green Street in Crawfordsville, pastored by the Rev. Call who first taught him archery. He was the Sunday school teacher, secretary and treasurer for many years at the church, which is now known as Sonlight Wesleyan Church.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Ave., Crawfordsville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the funeral home, with the Revs. Keith Jones and Dennis Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Mace Cemetery.
