Mr. Charles Lester Stultz, 98, of South Bend, formerly of Whitestown, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at SBN Hospice House in South Bend.
Mr. Stultz was born, one of eight children, on Sept. 8, 1914, in Terre Haute. He was a son of the now late James Everett and Mary Ellen (Deihl) Stultz. In rural Terre Haute, he began farming at an early age with his father after school.
He married Beulah Maxine Archer on March 9, 1935, in Terre Haute. They were married for 70 years before Mrs. Stultz passed away on June 9, 2005.
Mr. Stultz and his family moved to New Augusta in 1941, where he continued farming, and later moved to Whitestown. He was employed by Electrical Steel in Speedway, and for 33 years he worked at Rock Island Refinery, until his retirement in 1977. After retirement, he continued to farm part time.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family and they came first, but he really enjoyed going on his fishing trips. His other hobby was gardening; he had raised a garden for over 70 years.
Mr. Stultz was a member of New Hope Christian Church in Whitestown and Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two children, Karen S. (Paul) Wyatt of Greenfield and Charles R. (Sherry) Stultz of South Bend; five grandchildren, Brenda (Jon) Strohl of Lebanon, Brett (Jean) Caldwell of New Palestine, Matthew (Kelly) Caldwell of Pendleton, Jeffery (Allyson) Stultz of Columbus, Ohio, and Brian (Kelly) Stultz of South Bend; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Stultz was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Stultz, Howard Stultz and Edward Stultz; four sisters, Pearl King, Stella Adams, Margaret Lowe and Elizabeth Gregory; a daughter, Mary Alice Graham; and son-in-law, Jack Graham.
Visitation is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. David Bourne officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute.
