Mrs. Ruthanna Witt, 92, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Ill.
Mrs. Witt was born on May 21, 1918, in Kirklin, to the late Ora C. and Hazel (Dowden) Collins. She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1936.
She married Joseph F. Witt on June 2, 1940, in Frankfort. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Witt was a secretary at People’s Life Insurance Co. in Frankfort and at Stewart-Warner Corporation in Lebanon.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale. She was a past president of the United Methodist Women and Deborah Sunday Class and a longtime member of their prayer and study groups. She was a 25-year member of Tri Kappa Sorority in Lebanon, a charter member of the Elks Auxiliary in Carbondale and a member of the Federate Women’s Clubs in Frankfort and Carbondale for many years. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Frankfort and an active member in Girl Scouting for 39 years in Lebanon and Carbondale.
She enjoyed music and played the violin. She also enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, sewing, knitting and crafts.
Mrs. Witt was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, her sister-in-law and one great-granddaughter, Violet Hope Jackson, and one grandson, Roy Wade Lindsey.
She is survived by daughters, Joanna (Dan) Lindsey of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Rita Robbins of Carbondale and Marcia (Edward) Jackson of Crab Orchard, Ill.; granddaughter, Jennifer (Brett) Rogman; four grandsons, Ben Lindsey of Maplewood, Mo., Jason (Abby) Lindsey of St. Charles, Mo., Adam (Chelsi) Jackson of Carbondale and Clay Jackson of Marion, Ill.; six great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Camden Rogman, and Trinity, London, Willow and Adam Jackson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Ruthanna was a wonderful, fun-loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be deeply missed.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
