Anita L. Gossard

Mrs. Anita L. (Afanador) Gossard, 95, of West Lafayette, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at University Place, West Lafayette.

Mrs. Gossard was born on Aug. 25, 1915, in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of the late Angel and Parthena (Burris) Afanador. She received a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University and a master’s degree from Butler University.

She married Norman Clair Gossard in 1938 in Tipton. He preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1988.

Mrs. Gossard was an elementary school teacher for Frankfort Community Schools at Riley Elementary, retiring in 1977.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillisburg, Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Honorary, Indiana State Teacher’s Association, P.E.O. and Retired Teacher’s Association.

Mrs. Gossard enjoyed traveling, working with stained glass, painting, quilting and ballroom dancing.

Surviving are daughters, Janet G. (Robert) Stroud and Karen B. Bogan, all of West Lafayette; sons, David C. (Jane) Gossard of Andover, Mass., and Alan B. (Debbie) Gossard of Frankfort; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Hippensteel Tribute Center, 2529 Schuyler Ave., Lafayette. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the Tribute Center, with Pastor James Morin officiating. Burial will follow at Kempton Cemetery.

A memorial service will also be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at University Place, 1700 Lindberg Rd., West Lafayette, IN 47906.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to University Place, 1700 Lindberg Road, West Lafayette, IN 47906.
