Selena Wethington McCandless passed peacefully from our world on February 20, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation in Castleton with her family present. She was the second child of six born to Otto and Mary Francis (Hicks) Summers, both now deceased, on Oct. 11, 1920, in Casey County Ky. On March 22, 1939, she married Curtis Wethington and came to Boone County. They later divorced and he passed away May 10, 1985. On Feb. 22, 1975, she married Emil (Slim) Greve from Darlington and moved there. He passed away on May 4, 1977. She moved to Crawfordsville and married Noah McCandless on Sept. 5, 1981. He passed away on Nov. 20, 2011.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Mary Jane (Don) Schooler from Jamestown, Betty Jo (Alan) Brown from Advance, and Joan (Ken) Harrison from Indianapolis, and a sister, Jean Warner of Liberty, Ky. Selena also had three stepchildren, Shirley (McCandless) Vannice from Crawfordsville, Linda (McCandless) Cravens from Monticello and Tom McCandless from Crawfordsville. Selena had eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She also leaves two sisters-in-law: Pat Wethington from Wentzville, Mo., and Mary Brown from Lebanon; an aunt, Georgia Bishop from Lebanon, and many nieces and nephews.
Selena worked at Walker Poultry House in Jamestown, Stewart Warner in Lebanon and retired from Terra Products in Crawfordsville.
Her hobbies included spending many hours sewing and quilting beautiful quilts for herself, her family and many friends as well as selling many of her items. She had been a member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge in Crawfordsville. She enjoyed listening to country music and playing her many vinyl albums at Christmas time which she loved. She loved to square dance many years ago and was a member of the Happy Mixers square dance club from Advance.
Selena was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Tim Wethington; her sisters, Mabel Whiffing, Laura Mae Wethington, and Marie Summers; her brother, Arthur Summers, and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Martin. Mom will forever be loved and missed.
Family and friends will gather at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., in Lebanon today, Feb. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. for visitation, with services on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Selena will be laid to rest at Old Union Cemetery, Jamestown.
