Richard Nelson “Rick” Cavin

Mr. Richard Nelson “Rick” Cavin, 70, of Indianapolis, formerly of Lebanon, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Mr. Cavin was born Oct. 28, 1942, in Lebanon, the son of the now late Lawrence Eugene and Mary Elizabeth (Osburn) Cavin. Reared and educated in Boone County, he graduated from Granville Wells High School in 1960.

In Lebanon, Rick worked for Commercial Filters for several years, and then went to work for the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township as a mechanic. He retired from there in 2010.

A dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Rick loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed traveling and the out-of-doors, especially hunting, fishing and golfing.

Survivors include longtime companion, Sharon K. Bennett of Indianapolis; three children, Richard N. “Rick” Cavin II of Lebanon, Kelly J. (Ronnie) Taylor of Brodhead, Ky., and Julie K. (Tim) Childress of Advance; one sister, Nancy D. Newman of Kingman; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Myers Mortuary, with Pastor Dan Willhite officiating. Interment will follow at the Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Gary Newman.
