'Collaborate, educate and inspire'
Jill Hendricks of Whitington Homes and Services for Children and Families in Fort Wayne, left, speaks with Lisa Bedwell of Cummins Behavioral Health Systems in Lebanon Wednesday afternoon at Judge David’s Community In-Service at the 4-H fairgrounds. The theme for this 11th annual in-service was “Taking the Wheel for Our Youth — Working to Curb Distracted and Impaired Driving.” The event included a variety of speakers and programs on things like the use of Myspace, Facebook and other social technology; driving and cell phone use; and teen reaction times. Terri McMasters spoke on losing her high school daughter to huffing and driving, Judge Steve David said. “It was very, very emotional,” he said. “But very relevant. This is an opportunity to collaborate, educate and inspire.”
About 250 people attended the in-service, and information was available from many youth-focused vendors such as Gibault Children’s Services, Terre Haute; Indiana Foster Care and Adoption Agency, Indianapolis; Youth Opportunity Center, Inc., Muncie; as well as Boone County agencies like Youth As Resources, Indiana United Methodist Children’s Home and the health department.
